John Rolfe

John Rolfe joined the Regular Army at seventeen in 1966. After his basic training at Kapooka NSW, John was posted to 2 Field Engineering Squadron, Royal Australian Engineers based at Enoggera Brisbane QLD.

John served for 6 years and volunteered to go to Vietnam and toured 1970 – 1971. After Johns military service, he returned home to Western Australia with his young family and transitioned back into civilian life.

After his extensive training in the Engineers, John took on supervisory rolls in civil construction industries. Working his way up to Civil Superintendent for Rio Tinto Major Projects. John spent 20 years working on major projects throughout Australia, culminating on Phase 2 and 3 of the 8.3 billion upgrades to Cape Lambert in Western Australia of which he managed the civil earth moving package valued at over 850 million dollars.

In 1981, John accepted a position as an officer within the Army Cadets, which he accepted and spent the next 23 years training cadets in Western Australia and only gave this away in 2024 because of his work commitments.

John retired in 2015 after 52 years in the workforce and decided to join the RSL. In 2018, he was Elected President of the North Beach RSL for a 3-year term and re-elected unopposed in 2021 for a further 3 years.

Over Johns 6 – year tenure, the North Beach RSL Sub- branch won the Newdegate Cup 3 times; he decided to stand down after 6 years and turn his attention to supporting veterans and their families through RSLWA.

John’s current positions in RSLWA include:

  • Member of the State Tribunal
  • Member of the Constitution Committee
  • Vice Chair of the Western Australian Veterans Committee (WAVAC)
  • Trustee RSLWA
