RSLWA’s Invest In A Veteran employment service for partners, too

A NEW employment service for Veterans and their partners – RSLWA’s Invest In A Veteran – will tackle high levels of under-employment within the ex-service community.

Effective today, this service will actively promote the employment of Veterans and their partners to ensure long-term work for those who need it.

RSLWA’s Invest In A Veteran will not replicate current services – instead working in conjunction with Working Spirit and the Veterans’ Transition to Employment Program (which will operate out of the Jarrahdale R&R centre later in 2021) to assist Veterans to plug any shortfalls within the existing system.

It is open to Australian and Allied Veterans with current Australian working rights, as well as their partners.

The recognition of the sacrifices made by the partners of service personnel is a huge point of difference in this service. It has been recognised here and overseas that the careers of partners and children of military personnel suffer as a consequence of the frequent moves required with military postings.

RSLWA’s new employment consultant Sherry Baxter (pictured), who is a Veteran, is excited to help bridge the gap between transition and employment in the civilian world, by providing her unique skillset to help get Veterans and their partners into meaningful employment.

Sherry specialises in getting resumes work ready (demilitarising them for the civilian world), career counselling, interview coaching, personal branding, and instilling belief and motivation back into those who’ve taken a hit to their self-esteem.

There are also Veterans who require assistance but are not yet ready for employment. Sherry will facilitate referrals to both internal welfare and external services that will support the Veteran to make a positive change in their life.

Employers are also becoming aware of the value in employing veterans who are capable, focused, strong work ethic, multi skilled, detail orientated and an asset to any environment.
