Fremantle RSL has announced that the first recipient of their Youth Development Scholarships is Pia Piggott, of East Fremantle who is planning to undertake a student exchange program in the US later this year. The Scholarship will be directed towards her air fares.
In making the announcement, Lindsay Lovering, President of RSL Fremantle said:
“Pia is a most worthy recipient and we are delighted to support her in her pursuing her studies. The objective of the initiative is to support the studies of the families of service personnel and her project falls perfectly within our guidelines”.
Ms Piggott, who is currently studying Economics and Agricultural Science at the University of Western Australia, plans to study Agricultural Science in the US.
“The Scholarship will assist me in covering the considerable costs involved in the Exchange Program. This assistance will be invaluable and I am keen also to support the ongoing work of Fremantle RSL.
The Scholarship Program, primarily aimed at the to the children of current serving or past members of Australia’s Defence Forces who reside in the Fremantle region, is designed to assist and advance a course of studies, advance career opportunities or develop skills that would not otherwise be affordable to the recipients.
Ms Piggott will lay a wreath at the morning Anzac Day service in North Fremantle and other relevant ceremonies during the year.
