The RSL Veterans’ Employment Program helps military spouses find a career they love. Here’s how.
As a military spouse, you’ve no doubt made sacrifices to support your partner’s career. From frequent moving to being the primary parent during your partner’s deployments (usually without a local support network), finding and keeping work has probably been a challenge. It’s likely your own career has taken a back seat while you support your partner to serve their country. For that, we thank you.
But if the time has come to build or advance your own career, the RSL is here for you. We’ll walk beside you every step of the way towards a job you love.
How do we support military spouse employment?
The RSL Veterans’ Employment Program (RVEP) is available to ADF and veteran partners and their families. We’re passionate about supporting the careers of those who support our servicepeople. We understand the unique challenges faced by military spouses when it comes to navigating the workforce and we provide tailored, one-on-one support.
Got no idea what you’d like to do for work? Don’t let that stop you from reaching out. We can help you decide what comes next and how to get there. Your local RVEP career coach can work with you to find your passion and purpose.
Overcoming resume gaps
Whether it’s due to frequent relocating, being the primary carer of children during your partners deployments, or both, you might have significant gaps in your CV. We’ll work with you to write a CV that best reflects what you have to offer.
Identifying your ‘soft skills’
If you’ve been doing tireless unpaid work, we see you and so will an employer. You’ve gained valuable skills beneficial to any workplace. Perseverance, adaptability, able to work under pressure, just to name a few. Our career coaches will empower you to market yourself to employers.
Supporting your return to the workforce
If you haven’t been in paid employment for a while, moving back into the workforce can be intimating and you mightn’t know where to start. Having an employment expert in your corner can make all the difference. Our career coaches understand the local labour market in Western Australia and can help you navigate it.
Training pathways and upskilling
You may need to do some training to be qualified for the work you want to do. We’ll help you find and enrol in courses to gain qualifications as needed.
Applying for jobs and preparing for interviews
Writing a solid job application isn’t easy, but we can help. We’ll work with you to fine tune your resume and prepare a cover letter that’ll capture the attention of an employer. And if you get an interview, we’ll help you to get ready for it.
Connections with local employers
The RSL Veterans’ Employment Program has a network of employment partners with current vacancies in WA and across Australia. We can help you make valuable connections that may open doors to the next stage in your career.
